OUR STORY

HOW WE STARTED

Componere began as a side hustle in a Bay Area home kitchen before eventually graduating to high-profile special events all over the country.

From the beginning, we knew that building a unique culture that attracted the best talent would be key to reimagining the catering industry.

WHAT’S IN A NAME

That desire to build the best team in the industry is part of the inspiration for our name, Componere, which is a Latin verb, meaning “to bring all the pieces together.”

Our name speaks to all the pieces of each custom, uniquely crafted element of the event experience—food, service, beverage, production, and design—that our team creates.

OUR INSPIRATION

In an often chaotic world, we savor the part our events play in bringing your guests together to celebrate some of the best moments of life.

We like to think our food acts as a bridge, linking people, experiences, and memories.

A UNIQUE CULTURE

We’ve built a culture, unique in the industry, that attracts the best talent and empowers them to thrive.

Componere is the first caterer to ever be awarded Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplace in America Award, after an in-depth process that included an anonymous survey of our team members and an audit of our benefits program.

CHARITY: WATER SUPPORTER

You’ll notice a $1 per-person charge on our invoices for tap water service. Our goal is to sponsor one new well a year in areas of the world desperately in need of clean water, and Componere will make up the funding shortfall.

SUSTAINABILITY

We’re proud to be a Certified Green Business, and we have been since 2012. Events are so important for bringing people together but also present opportunities for minimizing waste and environmental impact. Please ask us for ideas on how to make your event as sustainable as possible. We'd love to help.

BAY AREA RESCUE MISSION

The Bay Area Rescue Mission feeds over 1,000 people a day in one of Richmond’s toughest neighborhoods. We partner with them by donating leftover food from our events.

We also participate in their groundbreaking culinary job training program that's been profiled by the likes of The New York Times, NPR, and CBS Evening News. Top students have the opportunity to accept a paid position in our prep kitchen, where they learn valuable fine dining and catering skills.
